I know this question has probably been asked a thousand times. I was wanting to know if you guys know what the best materials are for self-study to get my MCSE. I don't want to just learn enough to pass the tests either. I need good quality materials that will show me everything I need to know and be able to put it to use in a work environment. If you know what some good materials are or know where I can look for some on the Net it would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't scraped up the ca$h to take the tests yet, but I bought MS Windows 2000 Core Requirements multi-book pack. Got it for a good deal and it has an ebook for quick reference and portability that is pretty cool.
A lot of people say the MS stuff is not that great, and I myself would probably buy supplemental "cram" books before I took the test.
I would look for cheap books/reviews on amazon, bn.com, etc. then try to buy them on ebay or bookpool.com.

Very often you can get a set of the Sybex MCSE Core books at Costco for about 1/2 the retail price, which is already about 1/3 the retail of the individual books.
That right there paid for 1 years worth of membership for me!
(The next year was paid for by obtaining a $125 retail art book for $35!)

I've been using the MS course books, and they're alright. The books are very repiticous, and mine have already started to fall apart after about a month of use. If you can find and afford them in hardback, that would be the way I would go.

Best way to get there, is one step at a time. Sybex & MS Press make good study material. Transcenders is a good exam prep tool. Then the software, Win2K, and of course atleast 1 more PC. MCP Magazine helps a lot too. They have basic tutorials on Win2K features. I learned RIS, Group Policy, etc, from their articles. ;)
