I am studying for the big 70-240, I am hoping to pass by the end of the year. Anyone have any advice? I think this is gonna be a tough one, so let me know how it was and what to study for. Thanks

Unfortunately I'm going to have to start getting ready for this as well. My good pals at Micro$oft are retiring my MC$E at the end of June, but I suppose that's what I get for not updating IIS 3.0. Good luck with it and let me know how you do.

Today i have just ordered the MCSE 2000 Core Requirement Kit, i have two more exams to get MCSE NT4.0 (Exchange and Proxy)and then the big 70-240.

Sound a very daunting task. Have you applied for your free certificate to do the test??

Hey all. I'm also studying for the 70-240 Accelerated. So far I have bought Sybex book for the accelerated exam. I think it costs $70 at the store. I"m not at home right now. I also hear from others who have taken AND passed the exam to use www.transcender.com. (http://www.transcender.com.) I also just ordered the voucher for the exam. Its not hard, you just go to the microsoft site, login with your Online ID and password and follow instructions. This exam I hear is a hard one. I set up a network at home with 3 W2K machines so I can study.

I've got to take it too. I've always used Transcender's products for all my IT certifications and they have been dead on! I've got some book, but I haven't really opened it yet.
I think that the best way to learn is to have the old lab with about 2 or 3 computers and just set up a network and play around with every thing that you can.

I'm doing an £800 course, then going to cram the transcenders for a couple of weeks, then take it.

For all those sitting 70-240, MCP Magazine suggest that when you want to sit 70-240, sit indtead one of the core test, the one which you have the most difficulty with and if you pass then sit 70-240.

Why waste a free test (espically if it is a one off)

I heard that there is a 4% pass rate for the upgrade exam!!!

M$ is always a fun game. I have to start studing for something. BE it the 240 or the 210. I have to actually pass for 2K if I want to keep my certification level up.

I heard about the 4% pass rate as well - and the idea to take one of the core exams first sounds like a good one, however I don't have the time unfortunately - I'm planning on a 2 week intensive session of study followed straightaway by the exam.

4% pass rate seems a little low even for a hard exam.
The sample questions I've seen suggest there's a lot more about accessability options than strictly necessary.

Best bet would be to take transcenders until you get 100% on all of them and then take the real thing. That's what I'm planning to do.

I think that the 4% pass rate came about because of 2 things:
1)A lot of MCSEs just took the exam for the hell of it not realising they only had 1 chance, and thinking that they could see what it was like, then study properly for it and go back and retake.

2)The original 70-240 was form based and EVERYBODY got the exact same set of questions. Which Transcender got a copy of. And released (!).
Microsoft found out, then quickly changed the exam and made it harder.
