I've been attempting to install Adobe Acrobat 5.0 onto my computer running Windows ME for quite a while. I can download the setup file from adobe.com successfully, but every time I attempt to install Acrobat, I receive error messages. During installation, I receive the messages "_ins5576 has caused an error in COOLTYPE.DLL _ins5576 will now close" and "_ins5576 has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL _ins5576 will now close." Then, the installation completes and when I try to open Acrobat, I receive the message "Acrord32 has caused an error in COOLTYPE.DLL Acrord32 will now close." I know COOLTYPE.DLL is associated with Adobe products, but I have no idea why I am having this problem! Anyone who can help me out, please email me at joshlcr@yahoo.com. Thank you very much.

This may sound stupid, but here's a thought:

When I was in A+ training, I was always told that the simplest way out might be the best way out. Try uninstalling/removing Acrobat from your system, run Scandisk to make sure there are no errors, then reinstall the software. When you reinstall, make sure your anti-virus software is disabled, and make sure you close any open windows, before the program begins to install.

I'm running Windows 98SE on a very touchy machine, and I have learned that software installs best without anti-virus software engaged and all unnecessary windows closed.

I hope that my suggestion helps. If not, then it's possible that your copy of Acrobat is corrupt. If so, download again, and reinstall.
