I have a client who is running Win95B, and IE501SP2. The client's complaint is this: When she clicks on a website, any website, it takes 3-4 mins to bring the webpage up. I've checked her networking setup, all looks fine. To test, I tried bringing up yahoo.com.. Took 4 min!! to bring up the first page.. But at the same time, a ping of www.yahoo.com indicated 80-100ms.. I've scoped out the configuration of IE in tools/internet options and all looks fine...I've flushed the toilet, so to speak, on the tempfiles and cache... No effect.. Everything else network-wise works fine except for IE.. Has anyone seen this kind of problem? if so, HELP!! this client is my bosses assistant....

Hiya

Have you tried a defrag and also the good old repair? If not the repair:

Control panel | AddRemove. Doubleclick Microsoft Internet Explorer. choose Repair, apply and restart.

What about the DNS servers shes using, are they the correct ones, maybe its taking the time to lookup and resolve.

But that said, if its pinging quick, there should'nt be anything wrong with that.

Is her antivirus program set to web scan, maybe its not set-up right, try disabling it and browsing.

Other than that ... i dunno?

Could be a trojan, but try this: do a search for a file called INDEX.DAT, rename it, and reboot. This file handles the internet file cache and sometimes can get corrupted.

Hiya

Forgot about this

Start | Find Files and Folders. Type in Hosts and press enter. Your're looking for a file just called Hosts with no file extension. You'll find files named ImHosts.sam and Hosts.sam but they aren't what your looking for.

Do you see a file called just Hosts? If so, close all instances of IE and then rename it Hosts.old

Boot into Dos. Deltree the folders:
C:\Windows\Tempor~1\Content.ie5
C:\Windows\History\History.ie5

It'll only work properly if you boot into Dos mode. Expect the first one to take a little while. Might help get rid of some of the junk and speed it up a bit. Even if it dosn't fix the problem, it'll definately help.
