I have installed a new WD hard drive and the only windows file on the drive is command.com. I have physically installed a Octek CDR812 cd-rom but I can not locate the software to install it. I have downloaded the the driver ("cdr812~1.exe") from the net onto the new hard drive. I than ran the executable file that extracts four files, which opens up the "Octek CDR812 CDROM Drive Setup Program v1.0". Next I hit 'enter' to run the displayed "setup", it says that it failed to find the file MSCDEX.EXE. Is there a way to install this cd-rom without the software that came with it on a new hard drive that does not have windows loaded?

From your Windows boot up disk, copy mscdex.exe to your c: drive.
When you load your CD-ROM driver again, direct it to C:\, to locate mscdex.exe.
