I've tried doing this, took the time to design my own startup screen, just to find out that editing my registry will not disable WFP. I've followed all steps to the letter, too. Could it be due to the fact that I'm running Service Pack 2, RC 2.52?

I've been to this site, and followed every step. But even after changing the SFCDisable DWORD Value to ffffff9d, my WFP is still active. Everytime I try to copy the modified NTOSKRNL.EXE file into WINNT/System32, it puts it back to its original state. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help. Doing some more research on it, I found a way t change it without having to edit the registry. I now have a start-up screen I don't mind looking at. Thanks!

I did the changes but it looks really nasty in 16 color's I have tried using 256 and 16 million and it just black's out the screen. I mean it's fun and all but I want it to look sharp as well.

Another way to disable the SFC is to use X-Setup, a nifty utility to tweak your system. You can download it and some other tools here! (http://www.xteq.com/products/index.html)

Here's the instructions for changing it without diving into the registry:

Let's make it short:
file = NTOSKRNL.EXE
1: Backup the file!
2: Make copy of the file to edit to another dir
3: Edit the file in the other dir
4: Copy the edited file to WINNT\Driver Cache\i386
4.5 Copy the edited file to WINNT\System32\dllcache (OPTIONAL)
5: Copy the edited file to WINNT\System32
6: Restart the system and be amazed

Thanks to JonaZ on the LittleWhiteDog Forum for these instructions.

I found today that when you install SP2, you WILL need to re-edit NTOSKRNL.EXE to include your new start-up image again. Something I should have realized initially, but never thought of it.
