[RESOLVED] Best CDRW to buy...????

I have bought two CDRW drives before
LG 24x4x2 & Richo 24x4x2 and both of these drives i have had nothing but probs with.

I want to backup my games (ibm & sony) as my two young children get them and play frizbee's with them.

I need to find a good cdrw fast as i have already lost abot 8 games already.

HP's CDR-W (IDE) isn't the speediest but it is commented on being reliable. I noticed that it doesn't get along with Verbatim CDR discs though. Which is weird because it has no problems with Verbatim CDR-W discs. Go figure!

Mitsumi make one of the best and cheapest drives. Now how often do you those in the same statement !

Mitsumi 4802 is a pretty good drive. So is Yamaha 4x4x16, so are HP.

Alot of times though people have problems with CDRs because they aren't set up properly.

There are a few different ways to set it up depending on what kind of burning you will do. If you just want to make copies of disks then use DirectCD and always select "copy files to HDD first." Burn from the HDD and you will have better luck. Also kill any background programs and SCREEN SAVERS that are not required. And leave the machine alone while it's burning.

My mitsumi worked excellent for the first year I had it. Loved it. Never a flaw and rarely a bad cd. However, It somehow broke a year and a week after I bought it and a week after the warranty ran out. I do tinker a lot with my computers and if I do buy another cd burner it would be mitsumi.

Pretty much anything that ships with Adaptec software. I was told that they test the drives before they let their software ship with it. I really have not seen any burners go bad. Just remember that when you are dealing with computers you get EXACTLY what you pay for.
