I want to install win 2000. Is it good idea to install it atop ME?

Is there any special thing to take care of about formating the HD using FDISK for clean install?

If you can, go clean install. Upgrades do go flawless, but not 100% of the time. You can also go with a dual boot, but it is suggested to run this minimum on separate partitions (perhaps two seporate drives). The two OS’s would run fine on the same partition, however it becomes difficult when applications for both OS’s end up in the same “Program Files” directory, so seporate partitions is a sure safty net.

Nothing special needs to be done to the HDD before hand.

Boot from the CD, you can delete then create partitions as required, unless dual boot is your choice. Stick with NTFS, however FAT32 is stable if you think you need it for the Dual boot.

I know that many consider ME a good OS, providing that you have correct drivers. Realize, however that XP is the future. If you want to learn and stay current, 2k is just like XP, with some variation, minus some added functionality in XP.

Go for it!

no probs over ME ,,,,,lack of drivers for 2k.
at least if u do a duel boot , you can go back to ME log on the internet (via a phone line modem)and get ALL the drivers that u need.
Now regarding c:\program files , when u load new prograns , load them into a new dir IE: ntprogs.

when your win2k (NT5) is working proper go into boot.ini and turn the timer down to zero.when you are VERY happy , delete the offending line in boot.ini

much as i like a clean install ,,,,,unfortunatly ......life is hard
