OK, please dont hurt me for asking this question since I know its an easy one. We have been running on a Novell 3.12 for years and are just now upgrading to 5. The big problem is that the majority of our users still use DOS only to access the server and will continue to do so for quite some time. And you have probably already guessed that they cant login to this new server. I know I can load the DOS client but I would prefer if I could set it up so they can login the same way they do now without knowing the difference. I know it is because bindery is not set, but I am not sure exactly how to set it. Our server name is FS1, the tree is called Tico and the organization is TicoEast. Can someone please help me. Thanks.

This is the link to the DOS client with support up to Netware 5.0 SP1. It should prompt for login the same. Make sure when you install the client you select the right protocols (IP only, IPX only or both).

If I may suggest, keep the existing 3.12 server and install a new server with 5.x. (Then give them different names) This will allow you to keep the backwards compatibility for DOS without holding back any plans to upgrade the 5.x server. You can also keep the existing DOS client on your workstations if the new client isn't backwards compatible.
Of course you will need licenses for both but this may save you enough headaches in the future to make it worth the extra cost.

could be the dos client you are using does it support nds??? if not i know there are some clients that do (don't ask me where try novell web site) if this is a problem you can also setup all users in the root (not recomended) but will authenticate you like in 3.12 the other thing to check is the frame type setup on the dos client

Go to www.novell.com, (http://www.novell.com,) and click on the Download link. Then download Client 2.71 for DOS. This client is the last client for DOS, and also has Windows 3.x utilities. It will connect to any NetWare server, even 5.1. You may have to put your context in, or set the bindery context at the server.
