My office is having a problem where Novell (client ver. 3.2) is assigning two policies to some user logons. It dosn't happen to everyone, just some random users. We are running a network where we have way more liscenses than users, but often get "grace connection" error messages, and then after that, any future person has to wait for someone to log off before he/she can log on.
I'm sorry I can't give you too much info on the server as my boss mostly deals with the networking stuff. (I'm more of a hardware and windows man myself) But any helpfull suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Make sure that you have a search policy object in the same tree container as your user objects, and that the search level set in that object is set to zero. This will prevent the login from accidentally picking up policies elsewhere in the tree.

Thanks for the suggestion, but sadly it didn't solve our problem. If you have any other suggestions, they'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe this is a relatively simple solution, but: In Netware Administrator, look at the details for one of the user objects that is having problems, then click on the "Effective policies" tab. Now pick each platform from the drop-down box, and then press the "effective policies" BUTTON on the right to get a list. You might find where the extra policy is being picked up.

Are you assigning policies to the individual USER OBJECTS or to the CONTAINER OBJECT or both? I would agree w/ MacGuyver though, definately go back to the user object -> details -> effective policies and it should show you what is in effect.

I know, it's a bit late, but I've the same problem now on our server and as I really don't understand Novell very much, I hope that you can help me though.
I've tried to follow your advices but there's no tab "Effective policies" in user / details screen... :-( We have Netware 5 Server in version 500, 55 licences and the highest number of used units is 43 but still I get - sometimes - the "grace connection" error message.
Do you have any solution for me, please? Thanks in advance.
