login after moving computer

have a customer that moved a computer, set it up and would not boot, reran windows setup, runs fine, but will not login to the server, try to run netware client to login and it says "tree or server not found", network neighborhood doesn't show the server,
can you tell me where to start,
these people want local support, i did novell back in the 3.12 days but nothing for years
any help will be welcomed

I hope this isn't too simple, but have you checked the cabling? If the client moved the computer and then it wouldn't log in, check the cabling. Otherwise, if they reinstalled Windows, make sure the drivers for the NIC are installed properly, make sure the frame type in your IPX stack is correct. But cabling is the first thing I'd look at.

The other thing you should check is that the NIC is set for the right type of cabling: 10-base-2 (coax) or 10-base-T (telephone style plug called RJ-45)

I had this problem when I upgraded my office to 100-base-T from 10-base-2. Some NIC's would automatically detect the new cable and use it, others would need to have a config utility run to modify the internal settings on the card. One NIC's RJ-45 port would not work at all!

You should be able to download the necessary software from the card manufacturer's website.

After the upgrade, I took great pleasure in trashing all the 10-base-2 coax and associated parts! No more network crashes due to lousy connections.

Some nic's say they are 10/100 but when you try to plug in the card that runs fine on 10megs to 100megs then they just don't work. You might want to check port speed or even make sure the jack is live.
