Anyway, can I run Novell over a previous Operating System???

I know it will run fine on this 800mhz with 190mb ram and the 15gig hard disk... :p

Escuse me? Novell NetWare 3.x and above is a dedicated file server and requires available unformatted, non-partitioned hard drive space for its own volumes and file structure. It needs a 5-25MB dos partition to boot from then 200+MB of unpartitioned space for the SYS volume. Please clarify your question a little more.

Or can I run it on my current config, with winME installed (I can also put 98 on)

Yes, Novell NetWare is an operating system, specifically a network operating system (NOS). Our server actually boots to DOS 6.2, then Novell loads from there. However, it must be a TOTALLY CLEAN DOS BOOT or NetWare will choke when it tries to detect all the devices.

You can certainly do a dual boot setup just like you would with Windows and Linux for example, but you could not run NetWare on top of Windows. Just like you can't run Linux on top of Windows. You would probably need ServerMagic, or PartitionMagic at a minimum, to manage the partition setups.

I would strongly recommend a dedicated server if you intend to run NetWare. You don't need much to run one with only a few users. We ran a NetWare 3.12 server a couple years back on a P100 with 32 megs of RAM and IDE hard disks. It served a maximum of eight users with file and print sharing ONLY. Wasn't screaming, but it worked well. If you are intending to run more stuff on it (email, virus scanning, FTP services, firewall, internet proxy, etc.) you will need more)
Newer versions will require more hardware.

Also would I be able to set up the Internet sharing, just like in Win 98SE - ME?

Oh yeah, that config would do just fine!

If you want to share Internet with your Novell NetWare server, no problem. You'll need two NIC's in it, one will be the public NIC (connected to your Internet connection) and the other will be the private NIC (connected to your internal network) Make absolutely sure the NIC's you are going use have NetWare drivers available!

Then you'll need to install Novell Client 32 software on each PC to authenticate to the server.

BUT If you want firewall or filtering capability, then that's extra software beyond the capabilities of the base NetWare install. Which means shelling out some bucks for BorderManager.

I have not used 5.x yet, but I have been told that the server console is a GUI and makes use of the mouse, whereas previous versions of Netware have used a text console with ASCII characters only.

Keep in mind that a running Netware server cannot be used for anything else, unlike a Microsoft Windows based server.
