Not knowing ANYTHING about novell, except what I needed for MCSE. I'm going to assume some things.
A) you gotta buy it. So, like with microsoft, is there a 120 day trial verison I can use to learn some of the basic's.
B)It will run on any normal PC
IF either of the above are wrong please correct me and if you have any links please let me know.
Thanks

Ahhhh... a freshly minted MCSE, ready for the conversion to the Big Red Machine... :)
ok... here's what you need to know:
http://shop.novell.com - Click on trial software, there, you can:
pick up a Eval. version of Netware 5.1 (the latest) for $25.00...
pick up an Eval copy of Small Business Server for $10.00
pick up a copy of NDS eDirectory (blows the pants off Active Directory IMHO)
And thats not the end of the software!
http://www.novell.com/download/ has a TON of software to download, many of it free evaluation versions, like Groupwise (the email system), Server/Client virus scanners, and other various enhancements/programs.
Hope this Helps!

Now, for the second part of this...
The Specs for Netware 5:
"NetWare 5.1 requires a server-class PC with a Pentium or higher processor. It also requires at least 1.3GB of disk space and 128MB of RAM. NetWare 5.1 runs on any network for which client software has been created, including Windows and Macintosh. To install NetWare 5.1 you will need a VGA or higher resolution display adapter, one or more network boards, and a CD-ROM drive that can read ISO 9660-formatted CD disks. "
Netware 4.2:
386-based PC or above
16MB of RAM
More memory may be required depending on the number of users, the load on the server, the number of NLMs loaded, and the size of the network hard disks.
A hard disk with enough free space for your network size
NetWare 4.2 requires at least 55MB of free disk space. You will need additional space for the NetWare 4.2 online documentation, NetWare 4.2 MultiProtocol Router, the IPX/IP Gateway, Netscape FastTrack Server for NetWare, and FTP Services for NetWare.
At least one network adapter
We've got a Netware test server (4.2)running on a P100, with 64MB ram, and a 2gig drive. It averages something like 75% peak CPU utilization.
Beats the pants off any MS network operating system.

PJPilate brings up a great point. With all this free evaluation software, you can set up your own real, functioning, Netware server on a spare computer and play around with it. This is the best way to learn about Netware, since if you happen to screw something up you won't have 100 angry users who can't print! Also keep this URL in your back pocket:
Novell Knowledgebase (http://support.novell.com/search/kb_index.html)
I am always amazed as to what the Novell Knowledgebase will turn up. Probably one of the best KB's on the net, period.
