[RESOLVED] Cd player not functioning properly.

My loving daughter accidently placed two cd's in the cd player at the same time. The only way I could stop the cd player from spinning out of control was to shut down at the tower. Since this, I have not been able to play any cd's at all. I have looked at the system information and dispite a cd being in the player it states that there is no cd in the M: Drive at all. The device manager shows that this device is working properly and that the best driver for this device is already installed. When I do place a cd in the player the green light does flicker as it usually would , But I can't get it to play anything at all. If its not playing any cd at all, neither data nor audio, then i would strongly suspect that the CDROM has been damaged. Its possible that the laser head was misaligned when both disks were inserted together - buy a new CDROM.

One question. Does the drive attempt to spin the disk? Look and see if the drive moves the disk at all or sounds like it's trying to.

When I do place a cd in the player all I hear is a click like sound.( Not a loud sound though. ) It's like it's trying to get it to go but nothing happens. I'm beginning to think that it may be time to just buy a new one. I just don't know.

Sounds like the motor that spins the cd is dead. You can hear the motor that moves the laser head backwards and forwards. It's time to place this drive in the bin.

CD drives are so cheap now you shouldn't have any problems. I have a preference for LG (otherwise known as Goldstar) and Hitachi, who also produce good drives. I test and fix a lot of new a second user drives and the results can be surprising.
