I bought a few boxes of computer junk just for fun, and found a stack of 4.3GB laptop hard drives but they are password protected, They are IBM drives. Any ideas? http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm18.gif

They are probably protected with some sort of software, possibly a Norton product. Most likely encrypted, so you'll never see the contents within your lifetime. Can you format them and reuse them?

If it ain't broke, and you try to fix it anyway, then it WILL need fixing!

You may need to perform a low level format of the HDDs as the password lock program may be stored somewhere in the master boot record.

Hehehe yeah, 4.3 gig notebook HDDs are hardly classified as junk!

IBM should have a diag utility that will write zeros to the drive erasing anything on them including the password
