I am currently working on a compaq presario 1200T running a retal copy of win 98 SE. I had to remove the OEM copy of win ME as it had major problems and I did not have the restore availble through the driver support pages I found a driver for the modem that appears to work as far as installing correctly but it will not dial out and the modem diagnostics in window reports that the port is already in use I have also tried all four com ports is this a posible problem with the driver if so any one know where I can get the correct driver any suggestions would be helpful thanks

Well, the computer is probably pretty new since it came preinstalled with WinME. I would usually suggest www.driverguide.com (http://www.driverguide.com) (User: drivers ; PW: all), but I'm not sure they will have it in your case. Driverguide is really cool. If you just pull out the modem and plug in model numbers (or anything) into thier search engine. It will pop up with lots of drivers that people have found and submitted. You may have a little trouble though since your PC is fairly new. Good luck!

What make and model modem is it? What chipset?
I know that some Compaq modems don't have drivers for different OS's.

When you removed ME, did you format both partitions on the laptop (system_sav)? If you didn't you have the driver on the D:\ in the CPQDRV folder. I can't remember the exact name of the file. Post a reply and I'll look on a computer at work and let you know exactly where and what the driver is! The com port has to be set by the modem in this case and if the computer doesn't self detect it on start up, it won't work either!...... :)

Try this one. It says for Win ME but I think it will work for Win98 SE as well
