Has anyone had any problems networking ME? We have a customer that has been told that Windows ME is not recommended for networking, has anyone heard anything like this from Microsoft or got any links???

Regards Dave

I am not ME fluent, however to state that ME isn't network able is preposterous. There may be some issues that preclude one PC from the network, however to denigrate the entire OS...

Now, as far as security, the ME OS is based on the 9x kernel, and requires no login and password to start the PC. Perhaps that was what was meant...

Where are all of the ME experts out there...what have you to say.

I love WinME. The only thing I don't like about it, is that I can't make a DOS boot disk. But other than that, it's great.

Anyway, about Networking. I've found, it's actually easier to setup than the previous versions. It really does most of the work for you. If you're just setting up a basic p2p network, you should have the following in Network Properties:
Client for Microsoft Networks
Network Adapter
tcp/ip (and/or NetBeui)
File and Print sharing

Then also, you should make sure a username is specified, the workgroup name on all the pc's should be the same, and a description can be entered. After that and after a reboot, a very basic, low security p2p home network should work just dandy. And this is all very easy to do in ME.

I agree with Webhead. ME even has a networking wizzard that will make a floppy disk that you can just insert in every computer on the network and it will configure it for you. Very handy for people not to familiar with TCP/IP stuff.

*NOTE* When I say network, I mean a small at home type of thing with a few computers on it. Not some large corporate entity. ;)

Thanks guys I will show my customer your posts, he has always been unhappy at something. I think ME is ideal for him as he is running a four computer network and is on a budget.

Once again thanks :D

I use WinMe, WinXP, and Win98SE, and I found out that ME was actually the easiest to configure through my router and into the netowrk (and web access).

Almost plug it in, and its ready to go!
