That means the card is disabled. Right click it and choose Enable. Or right click and choose properties, and read the reason why it is disabled.

Check to see that it is not sharing any resources with anything and that the driver is installed, try removing the part from the device manager and then rebooting and then reloading the driver

To see if it is sharing resources right click on my computer>device manager>pick out the card and right click on it and select > properties

The click the resource tabs. It will tell you if there is a conflict with any other component on your machine.

Let us know.

Try deleting the card in Device manager and then reboot. Windows should find the card again and you can reinstall it. If not, then you can go to Add New Hardware and add it there.

Have fun with your dad...I know how that works... :D ;)

give us some system specs. What hardware combinations does it have. Also you might try physically moving the NIC to a different PCI slot (if you can).

Ethernet…Ethernet…Ethernet!!! If you tried to install an “earthernet” card, that may be your problem right there! Microsoft stopped supporting drivers for those cards due to some form of “global conspiracy” in the industry. :)

As to the problem with the Ethernet card, are you letting Windows install its own driver; the OS may have incorrectly identified it. If you are using the third party driver, are you absolutely certain that it is correct? You say the card worked before; did you print out a copy of the Devise manager list before you wiped out the PC? If you did, you would see what hardware was installed, and could download the most current, correct driver. If not, you need to yank the card and look for some identification, so you can be sure it isn't just that the wrong driver is installed, and is disabling itself.
