Got a buddy thats run'n winME(yes, we know it's a mem hog)... 4 ram he has 2 sticks = 384mb's. Appearantly, he's using a memturbo proggy and another called cacheman and has both shown down in the taskbar. To play an online game, he shuts down everything that is not needed. As he plays his game, his memory begins to drop dramaticly, often getting down to about 40mb's available. He says he does use the recover ram feature, but within 10min's, he's needing another recover.
From the way he's describe'n; whats happening, to me it sounds like something is not quite right.
I've gotten him to try differant things such as re-arrangeing the sticks, changeing virtual mem settings, cache sizes...but so far..no luck.
Any one have any idea's as to what may be happening here or possibly something differant that he could try?
Thanks... Just help'n a bro :)

I would guess that he is running an app that has a memory leak. 2 things need to be done:
1)Format and install Windows 2000 or XP Pro
2)Buy more memory for that thing <a href="http://www.pricewatch.com" target="_blank">www.pricewatch.com</a> ...memory is so cheap it is practically free.

Changeing Opsys is not an option here and I would think 384mb's would be plenty... but thanks
Any other idea's?

Have you contacted the game's maker to see if there are any updates available to patch up that memory leak? You might let us know what game it is in case anyone else has already solved this problem....

Depending on the app, 384 might not be enough! As stated, memory is so cheep, 256MB PC100 for $23+tax just two days ago. Don't assume, try adding some and see.

Does he use the memory tweaking programs when he is seeing the problems? They may be part of the problem as well.

The game would be PGA2000 from Sierra Sports(a pretty fun game I must add), definitly not no high end application there. He's the only one with this problem from posting on the forums to this game.
Others with much less ram have had "NO" problems.
Yes, he does run the recover when the ram available amount goes down...although, there are various setting within this memturbo and cacheman, and I've gotten him to try differant setting scenerios for them(even with haveing only one of them little proggies at a time running).
I am wondering if it may be a simple change in his bios?
Or maybe it's these programs that are causeing the deliema?
Thoughts? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Does his system crash when the programs say he is running out of memory? If not then the memory programs may just be giving you a false alarm. The game may want to get as much memory as it possibly can.
