What exactly is "DMI Pool Data" and why does my system lock up when it displays this message of doom for me? Here is what I do: I have two hard drives with two separate OSs on them. Both are Windows Millenium Edition. I remove hard drive A, replace it with B, autodetect it in the bios, yadaa yada ya. Then when I go back to hard drive A, the system refuses to go any further than the rather annoying "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." screen. I can go into Safe mode, which is worthless to me. I need to know how to get past this point safely from now on, as I find the only remedy is to reinstall my OS on hard drive A over, and OVER and OVER again... (Hard drive B is fine)

Anyways, if you guys need any more information, I'll be back to add more if you don't know what's wrong...

I am no expert by any means on pool data, but through my experiences it basically is all the IRQ,DMA, and basically what and where the hardware is so windows can talk to it. When you switch Hard drives that pool changes, It would change if you switched RAM to,. How long do you let it sit there verifying the pool? Try giving it an obnoxiosly long time like 20 minutes and see what it does.
Try going to the Microsoft Knowledge base. If I have time I'll search.

Wow DMI Data Pool is right! With those instructions, grab your swim shorts and get ready...we're going for a swim! Those are some screwy instructions (and precise)...I wonder how long it took them to figure all that out? Something I'll need to try next time this happens to me, I see it way too often also (even after giving it 30 minutes to hang there...) http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm29.gif

Device Management Interface. This is the point where the BIOS hands off the hardware to the OS.
