On Upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows ME (Win 98 removed) the following error occurs:
In the configuration – System – system devices a code 2 error is given: Intel 82371 PCI to ISA Bridge (ISA-mode), Can not load driver because to types of ISAPNP.VXD bus type are reported.
The Intel chipset installation and program that upgrades bus types was used
I did try as described below:
-Removed the install file under Windows
-I Renamed the file ISAPNP.VXD and removed the bridge
-Restarted the computer-
-on reinstalling the bridge I have to choose from two bus types PIIX4.inf and Machine.inf

Questions:
- What are the consequences of this error message?
- Can it be solved ?
- Should one of the above *.inf be removed?

Computer:
-Procom B683 motherboard
-Pentium III 550 mHz
-440 BX chipset
-Bios Award 4.51 PG
-plug and play version 1.00
-SMBIOS 2.20

When you say W98 removed I suspect that you used add-remove option. If that is the case you have followed the awkward path.

For best results, reformat the HD and then clean install ME, then upgrade the critical components diretly from Microsoft, or possibly from another server in your country; I understand you are residing i Holland.

Chances are you will need to update the drivers, your ME CD may not contain all the drivers for your installed hardware.
