I have tried just about everythign. I cannot burn cd to cd at 8x. But I can copy the cd to harddrive and then burn it at 8x. I've tried putting in a Promise Ultra 66 card to get the burner off the same ide controller as the cdrom. The hardware: Gigabyte MB, PIII733, 128Mg, 20GIG, Creative 8x4x32, Creative 52x, Castle wood orb drive. Any suggestions!!!!

Check the audio extraction speed of your cd-rom. Just because it is a 52X it does not mean that it extracts audio at 52X. Chances are it will be around 6. I have a Kenwood that barely extracts audio at 7-8X.
What software are you using to burn with?

I agree with Larommi about the transfer rates of your two units.
Just an advice: Forget all about connecting those units to an UDMA66 controller.
I've tried it myself and found that the controller may cause some problems.
