OK. CableModem service was installed today, and on two of the three boxes on the LAN - good stuff!

But the third box, an Athlon-800 that is nicely equipped and running Windows ME seems slow and really sluggish. Pages load slower than the current aDSL. LAN is pumped through a router, but that is working fine since my two other computers are online and operating at a much improved (and noticable) rate.

Any known WindowsME issues with 3COM CableModems?? Or Cable Internet access in general? I know, seems like a stupid question - but I am at that point now.

Grr.

Thanks,

Just my opinion, but I always thought ME was too much of a resource hog.
What Nic & Video are you using? Any chance that they are sharing the same IQR?

Might also check the protocals you have bound to your adapter. Only bind the ones you are really using, as the more you bind to it the slower it'll become.

Just a few things to check.

I agree on WinME, but that machine is used by someone else - not my choice. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

The NiC (3COM 905B) and Vid (Asus 7100 GeForce2) are ok, not sharing a thing. And protocols are ok. The thing is, DSL was (and is now) operating on this box (and now the whole network again) as well as it usually does. Its just when I apply the CableModem service to the network, that the network or at least - the WinME machine just slows up.

Late last night, I connected the CableModem directly to my main machine (Win98, AMD-K62-400, 512M ram, Voodoo3 3k, 3Com NiC) - and it was great.

I am about to guess that my area is just not a good CableModem area.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will tinker some more latere.

Interesting. For a good portion of yesterday, I just turned off the cable modem and ran the still existing aDSL through the network and the new router. And everything was peachy.

Then a little after dinner I switched everything off, then turned on the cable modem, then router. And then 1 PC to re-config router, reboot. Then 1 pc, test - good to go. Another PC (the WinblowsME box), it ran fine. Turned on the third box, and thus far everything is good.

Just like a MS product.

Glad to see it working ok for you now. Go figure on could happen on MS products.
