LTE 5400 cd-rom problems

I just wiped win95 off of a Lte5400
and installed windows 98se onto it,
I followed compaqs instructions for doing so,
everything went great, one problem,
It won't detect the cd-rom unless I reboot with the cd-rom in the bay, Win95 didn't do that,
Anyone know how I can remedy this???

Was the Windows 95 you wiped off the version it came with? Maybe there was a special handling program/drivers on it. Does it have quickrestore CDs?

no, unfortunateley there are no quick restore cd's for it,
I have reinstalled windows 95 on it before, but 95 has been having problems with the newest norton updates.. at least on this antique

I think I found my answer...
It's a third party software for hot and warm swapping
