hey...
whenever i try to play a divx movie (which is burned on a cd)the media player 6.4/8 (whatever..)
pauses after afew seconds and then freezes !!..(afterwards the whole system freezes).

i should mention that this is a new problem and up until a month ago i could play divx on cd just fine.the funny thing is that i can copy the flie to my hard drive and than it plays just fine !!...
so that's why it can't be a codec problem.
also ,this problem only happens on my win 2k pro (dual boot with Min me on a separate partition)and while on win me everything is fine.

Please Help !!........

What about running standard MPEGs off a CD? or Mp3s? or even audio CDs?

well....audio cd's are fine...mp3's are fine...
i don't have a Mpeg file that is as big as the
divx cd.(maybe a cause to the problem is that
there is a problem with reading large files from the cd ??)

Are you sure it's not a codec problem? There is a new DivX 4 out there and a new Microsoft version too. I have had no problems with any codecs on the same type of dual boot system. Try upgrading the codecs and see what happens.

Or have you changed something recently and forgotten to enable dma and stuff like that? Upgraded media player? Etc.

i do have the latest codecs (divx 4.02 installed)
and as i mentioned before i can copy the file to my hard drive and then it plays fine.

i did upgrage the windows media player 7 to the windows media player 8.00.00.4477....

but files on my hard disk work fine with WMP 6.4 and WMP 8 or powerdvd.the problem is only while playing a large divx and only from the cd.again,on win me everything is fine.
please help me..

uninstalling the WMP 8 didn't help.
nor did installing WMP 7.1.

a funny thing is that after the computer boots if i try to use the OLD media player (Ver 5.0, mplay32.exe) the movie plays and i can go forwards and backwards just fine.

all the other players just don't seem to be able to seek through the movie.....

I tried uninstalling the cd from the device manager but that did't help....(it works fine on my dual boot WIN me )

is there a way to uninstall Media Player 6.4 ?
and if so how can i reinstall it ??(Win 2000)

HELP PLEASE !!......

Vulcan, poor thing.

Strange thing to ask. Have you got the latest drivers for:

1. your graphics card,
2. agp, for eg. if via chipset then 4in1
3. directx?

What make and speed of cd drive are you using and does it support dma?

If you upgrade all the drivers related to video stuff and then upgrade WMP to the latest version, does it work then?

If you have tried all this, sorry. It sounds like a problem related to something graphical that's compatible with the older version but incompatible with the new. Or possibly your cd drive has problems with speed, can't believe this though as I can play divx movies on a 90 minute cd with an 8x Hitachi drive.

hey guys...

all my drivers are up to date,my cd works in dma mode (it can't be physically damaged because it work's fine on win me)and directX 8.0a is installed.

A more accurate description of the problem:

i play the movie with any player (wmp 6.4/7.1/8.0) and the movie starts playing and won't stop.BUT IF i will use the seek bar and choose to skip a few minutes forward the player freezes !!!!

THE ONLY PLAYER THAT IS ABLE TO PLAY AND SEEK THROUGH THE DIVX MOVIE IS THE OLD MEDIA PLAYER (MPLAY32.EXE)....THIS MUST BE PART OF THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM...(BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THIS IDEA)

AND AGAIN....THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHILE TRYING TO PLAY A DIVX ON CD...ON THE HARD DISK EVERYTHING IS FINE.

PLEASE HELP.......!!!.....

ok, i have had this problem before, goto Divx-Digest
and download the DivX anti freeze patch, also, remove DX8a and default back to DX8, also please not, Media Player 6.4 is recommended for the DivX Codecs to run properly.

hope this helps.
