Seriously, though, it is a frightening concept. Someone has created a virus that embeds itself in .jpg files. W32.Perrun doesn't seem too bad by itself but what if someone develops one that uses the same tricks to infect pages around the Internet?

The cynic in me has always wondered whether the AV people employ virus writers - sometimes the AV people are so fast as "analysing" the virus and producing a fix one wonders if they already knew about it.

Makes you think doesn't it. If it weren't for viruses, antiviruses would be out of business. However I have a bigger question than that.

Why would anyone want to create one in the first place? Its kind of like writing dirty words on the bathroom wall or something. It hurts someone else anonymously and does the writer no benefit whatsoever, except maybe a perverted thrill. I've never understood it myself.

Does anyone else understand why someone would channel all that time and effort just to create a program that would destroy some poor undeserving soul's life's work? Its sick!
