Very Slow Access to the Hard Drive because of "unfamiliar" driver (NEC) System/Performance reads "drive D:\ using MS-Dos compatibility mode file system" The CD-Rom is a NEC i'm pretty sure. I checked the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat and the lines are correct, in the "control panel/system/device manager" it has the " ! " on the "Mitsumi CD-rom controller /w double speed drive" and on the primary IDE controller. I tried "REM"'ng the lines for the CD rom in the configsys and the autexec and then the CD rom is'nt present when you boot windows 95. HELP PLEASE!!

Hi,
You might try going back into Device Manager and click on View Devices by Connections. Highlight the IDE controller that has the "!" by it and click on Properties. Go to Resources and check for Conflicts. You can then clear the Automatic Settings and then try the different configurations available in the drop-down menu. Watch the bottom pane for further conlicts. Once you find one without conflicts, Select it and then OK. Go back to Device Manager and click on Refresh. Hopefully, all will be well with the world.
Also, the link below will take you to HP's web site for some good info, BIOS upgrades, downloads, etc.
Hope this helps you out...Good Luck!

Oh yeah, don't forget to remove the "REM"'s from your autoexec.bat and config.sys files...you will probably need to reboot for the changes to take effect.
