Looking for a relatively cheap cdwriter

So I finished building my In Laws their new computer for Christmas (A family of six working from a Cyrix 200) and I need to get them a cd burner. I would like to attempt to find something relatively quiet as my father in law tries to keep the noise down as much as possible. It can be anywhere from an 8X write and up and I'd like to look in the $60-$100 range. Any suggestions?

Well thanks for looking but this company got a 3.9 on resellerratings. Not very good. Has anyone ever used a creative CDRW? Any things to say about it?

to be honest, CDRW's don't make a lot of noise. When burning, they spin at relatively low speeds compared to the high speed CD-ROM drives. And get him something nice and reliable, otherwise YOU will end up having to deal with it! The ad said the drive came with software, but didn't say which. EZCD 3.5? or 4? Or only a floppy disk with ATAPI drivers?

Well I won't be getting it from there anyhow and I have heard quite a few CDRW's that are quite noisy at times. I was just seeing if anyone had any experience with some of the cheaper ones and to see what everyone might suggest.

I have 4 or 5 of those (Creative) in the RMA bin. We use 12x10x32 NEC as out base product here. Haven't had to RMA one yet. They come with Roxio 5 basic.

If you want quiet, then go for a Plextor (either 16x10 or 24x10), & believe me the extra money is fully worth it.

At home I have an LG burner. LG = Lucky Goldstar
It's a 12x8x32 and have loved it since I got it! I got the LG cause that's what I use at work. Nothing but kudos for them. ;)

LGE (Lucky Goldstar Electronics?) got loads of these no problems at all and they are cheap. They also seem to make remarkably good copies of just about anything..but that as they say is a story for another day.

I've also formed a good opinion of the LG (Goldstar) drives as a budget unit. My supplier is happy with them, the CD-RW I'm using is quiet (8x4x32).

You could try the Mitsumi 16x10x40 CDRW They come with Nero 5 and EZCD 5 Basic. They full under the $80.00US range.
