Hello good people:
I've run across a CAT5 cable with label as followed:
BERK-TEK 28 AWG CL2 75C (UL)
Notice the "28 AWG", I plugged it into the regular 100/10 Hub and there's no connection. The LED on the hub kept "blinking" and would not stay solid. While the Link's LED on the NIC remain OFF. Any suggestion will appreciate.

Look at the colors of the wires on the ends.
Normal end:
White/orange
orange
white/green
blue
White/blue
Green
white/brown
brown
Crossover end:
white/green
Green
White/orange
blue
White/blue
orange
white/brown
brown
If both ends are 'normal' you have a bad cable. If one is crossover, you (obviously) have a crossover cable, typically used to connect hubs or to connect 10/100 Ethernet NIC's directly.
Hope that helped.

Some prefab cables don't use standard color schemes. A crossover cable would not light the hub at all, so the blinking would be indicative of a bad cable, nic, or port on the hub.
First, try different ports on the hub.
Next, get another (preferably known good) cat5 cable and try it. If neither of these resolve the problem, try another nic.
Hope this helps <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Your cable (if holding the ends side by side) should be the same on both ends (regardless of what color scheme is used. If it is and the cabe does not work you can pin it our with an ohmmeter and see which one looses connection, if not then you have a different type of cable - use the scheme above to determine if it is a crossover cable, again keeping in mind that only pins 123+6 matter.
