Hey guys, lemme give ya a low down on my current setup. We have about 14 workstations (all on win98 cause win2k sucks with novell) doing graphics and accounting..
a brand spanking new dual 733p3 1gb ram 2 36gb ultrastar ibms, and a POS Dell 200mhz NOVELL Server. well we were using the DELL as our server 'till i built the new one, well.. win2k doesnt like to work with novell that well, but it does kinda.. anyone that has worked with these two OS's knows what i'm talking about.. anyways, i figured out how to set up the printers with ip addresses on Local LPR ports (this is my first time setting up a server, especailly with ethernet printers-was easy once i got the jist of it) <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0"> well the hard part was our fileserver was the NOVELL which we do graphics so all of our images have links to specific harddrives (stupid setup to begin with.. not my fault) some files were corrupted so i couldnt copy them to new harddrives, so what i eneded up getting to work, was backing up the harddrive with win2k backup feature, and restoring on alternate location. well i got the files working.. awesome. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> i had one last delima. there are 2 printers that are out off site at 2 other locations.. the way we connect to them is ISDN (which i know nothing about) and well the isdn routers are set to IPX and are password protected so i cant change to tcp/ip(tried to delete password only way was to use the "book o nindy" and instlal new operating system on the ROM) so they are basically garbage unless we wanna print through the NOVELL server.. i tried setting up the printers on the win2k server and sharing them.. they work from the server, but not the workstations. says printers not online or something. so only way to get it working now is to figure a way to set up a VPN or some other type of networking to be able to print to the other locations, we are adding another location as well, and i wanted help deciding what the best way to go was. We are kinda low on budget here, didnt expect things to go like they did, what a mess <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0"> anyways.. If any of you guys have any idea what im talking about and wanna give me some input on to what i should get and prices and easibility (is that a word?) to get it working please, i beg you, help me. I'm only 18 and trying to do this for the familys company. Thanks everyone and you can contact me at : figmented@hotmail.com or if you wanna call me, ask in an e-mail.. please! thanks.. I'll be waiting for replys. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

OK, I've read this over about 3 times, and I still can't figure it out. What exactly are you asking about? Do you want to set up a VPN, and you're asking about how to do that?

Or are you asking about which setup you should use with the new locations? Or are you asking about another alternative to get these two printers that you're having trouble with working? I'd love to help but I'm not clear on what you need help with.

1. I use Win2k with NetWare all the time and do not experience problems, and my organization has about 15000+ users on a 2k/NetWare network with hundereds of 2k clients and all are working correctly. What EXACTLY are you having trouble with and maybe we can help.

2. Let me get this straight - you have ISDN that will only send IPX traffic (NO TCP/IP Info) and you want to know how to setup the printers so that they work?
a. You can set them as NetWare printers on the netware tree (4.x), install them on the 2k machine and then share them from the 2k machine and access them from the clients by installing a new Network printer then looking at the 2k machine for the share.

--or--
b. Install the NetWare cleint on the Win98 machines and install the printers from there.

BTW: NetWare is an excellent File and Print Server, fast and reliable, secure and simple to manage - 2k just kills it in Application serving, however is also an open book for security - so please install all the patches you can find and keep it clean.
