Ok, here's my problem:

I have my computer, and my wife's computer linked through a hub. I'm trying to network them. (File and printer sharing)

Both computers access the net no problem, but can't seem to "see" each other, thus no sharing.

Being new to networking on a win2k platform, I'm lost.

Both computers have the same workgroup name (workgroup IS the name), hers is identified as (computer name) "DAEMON2" while mine, being the host, is "DAEMON1".

When I try to map network drives, from my computer, mine is on the netwok map, along with two other domain names that don't need to be there, and I can't get rid of them:

When I try to map a network drive, let's say from my computer to Deanna's, My computer only sees ME in the netwok. And visa versa. If I want to add a network printer from D's computer to mine, "DAEMON1" isn't on the map, but "DAEMON2" is.

I'm lost, and if anyone can offer help, it'd be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

*note* If i've posted in the wrong section, please excuse me, I didn't know where else to post - Thanks

Well first off you need to enable on all win2k machines the Guest account. Also make sure that you have the right protocol installed on each machine (I am assuming that tcp/ip is installed on all machines since they are all connecting to the internet). What protocols do you have installed?

Easier that explaining one by one:

If you are running a firewall disable it(them). Then try connecting the two. If it then works adjust the settings in the firewall. If it does not work you could try using NetBEUI as a protocol and see if it works. If it does then it is settings that are out.
Make sure both PC's are in the same subnet.

Future:

Thanks man, we got it figgered out.

We (being me and a fellow gheek) figured it out about an hour before reading your post.

Thanks for the tips, you were the only one that came up with the right answer.

What was it? Firewall or NetBEUI protocol?

NetBEUI.

Indeed, you must be sick of being right.

Anyways, I really find that NetBEUI clogs things up a little....

I *should* have been able to connect straight through TCP\IP.

But at least it works. For now.
