Hi Everyone, I have been here quite a while reading your posts, just recently decided to become a member!

here is my problem:

I have a Kenwood 72x CDROM that i bought about a week ago, well, it's worked fine for almost a week and then it stopped.

when i start the computer up in the morning (after being off all night) it will work fine, the BIOS will recognize the CDROM and load into windows, and windows will find it alright, but after about five minutes it will lock up my computer, i reset it and the CDROM will have no power, i tried changing and checking IDE cables, power supplies, firmware, and jumper settings, and i also tried it in two other computers and the same thing happened.

The only thing i can figure that is causing it is heat, i have felt the bottom of it and its a little warm but nothing really bad.

I emailed kenwood tech support and they told me to email a different address of theirs for an "RMA" number (not sure what that is..)
four days ago, and i still havent gotten a response...

do any of you have any ideas/suggestions for me??

Easy thing first...RMA number is the way the company authorizes a return of merchandise. Next, did you take another CD ROM out to install the new one? You may need to remove the old one under "device manager." Check lastly and see if you have an IRQ conflict through "system information." I use the same Kenwood CD ROM with an Iomega CD RW, and have had no similar problems.
