I would like to back up a few of my dvd's and have DVD Copy Plus software, when I try to rip, I get an error message that says "no ASPI-Adapter available". I saw that I need to download the ASPI32.exe, my question is: What does this Adapter do and how much havoac will this create worst case on an XP machine?

ASPI is not a driver persay, but ingrained deeper into the OS. The most popular ASPI is published by adaptec. The only way you usualy get it installed is if you install a SCSI adapater. Now if you can dig up an old copy of Easy cd creator 3 (i think) the CD includes a manual update, install that one (one of the few that will update without looking for an adapetec ASPI), then go to adaptec page and download the ASPI update to get the most recent version. Adaptec does not recomend using this on 2k pro. I have without any issues. With XP, I can't say. Be warned that it's not something you can uninstall.

Try:

http://www.nu2.nu/aspi/

by far the easiest version i have seen is "forceaspi" , u can d/load from http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils_5.shtml this has to be run from a command prompt , and rebooted . DO NOT use 4.7 .,,,,as it *tuffs up nero/clone/dvdx in 2k/xp ,,,the easiest way is to run killaspi , reboot then run instaspi,

good luck with the rippin!

XP uses aspi to enumerate SCSI in a slightly different way..... so make sure you get the appropriate files (they are different to 9x), so loads of coasters when you burn?, so no change there... :D
