I would have to think that your card cde player does not like cdr media very much.
My home cd player will not play cdr media, but buddies will. It all depends on the cd player.
First off, check the cdr cd player manual that came with it to see if it says anyting about cdr media. If it dosn't, then it was never intended to use anything but pressed cds. If thats the case, the your SOL, time to get a new cd player for the car that accepts cdr's.
Nowadays you can get cd players that also read mp3 files, so you won't have to worry about converting them to wav before putting them on cd.

Before I used Nero, I used Easy CD Creator. Sometimes I would burn a CD for my roommate. He always complained to me that the CD's skipped. Anyway,.. since I've been using Nero, that problem went away.
I think the problem is with the software not the hardware. Try downloading and installing a trial of Nero. Burn a CD with it, then play it in your car and see if it skips. If it DOESN'T skip,.. then you should purchase a copy of Nero and use it instead of Easy CD Creator and everything will be all good after that.
