When ever i burn an audio CD from my Hdd or a copy it never recognises all the tracks and most of them r the worst quality with loads of muffly sounds and fuzzyness.
i thought it was the cd writer so i brought a new 1 (i needed a new 1 with my old 1 being only 4x) but it is still the same.
I am using nero but i have tried a few other progs and it is still the same.
Ne1 no wha t i can do to fix it without formatting?

What are your computer specs? Are you running anything else while burning a CD?

If it was just from the HD, I'd wonder what your source files are (WAV, MP3...what quality, how/where you got them) but you say it happens direct CD to CD, too..........maybe you have crummy files AND a flaky old CD-ROM?
Who knows, this is kind of weird.....yes, need system specs...also need coffee. I'm not connecting my brain and my fingers very well.
usually i am running progs in the background, msn, mirc, sophus anti virus, IE. But i have turned em all off b4 and it has still messed up the cd

Nero can behave very strangely when it's not a 'real' copy....

Ok, lets take this from the top;

quote:
Originally posted by SyphonX:

Secondly, are you trying to copy a genuine cd, and if so, have you tried a few different ones, preferably something thats a few years old as some more recent cd's have a form of copy protection.
Thirdly, when your testing your newly burnt cdr, where are you testing it? Try it in a proper stereo CDplayer, rather than your PC, to ensure you don't have a sound card or audio lead problem.
Fourthly, you say:

quote:
and as usual when i click discard when cd has finished burning, nero crashes and end now thing and send error (and ur pc and secrets) to m$

Ok, we need this sentence decoded, what exactly are you saying here?
Lastly, are you running a decent and UP-TO-DATE virus checker? Don't download Nero from Kazaa, Kazaa is full of d*ckheads trying to send you virused files, get it from www.ahead.de and try it under trial to see if it fixes your problem. The fact that you couldn't successfully burn a data cd and that your old 4x drive gave the same problems, hints at something deeper here. Perhaps your correct in your assumption that a reformat is in order but theres a few things to sort out before you take the plunge...

When 'inexplicable' writing errors occur I'm reaching for the flash utility and a new m/b bios.... Next chipset patches or even writer firmware...?
Can u test the unit elsewhere (though you changed it already?)? & have you tried with different media?

Did you turn off win xp native burning? Nero really doesn't like working with that on.

Right click the burner in my computer, select properties, recording tab, uncheck recording, apply or ok (can't remember which) then reboot.

I was having weird problems with Nero last night at my aunts house. It would only allow me to burn one CD at a time. If I would go back and try to burn another CD it would just sit there and do nothing. I'll have to try turning off native burning. Hopefully that works.

just a thought..something i noticed a long time ago...you didnt happen to use winamp to decode the .mp3 files to .wav did you?
if so check you EQ settings ..these affect the output when winamp decodes to .wav
and try a lower burning speed..?
good luck
