Anyone have problems with Hp 9100 Cd-Writer

I have an Hp 9100 internal IDE drive. It used to work fine but now it locks up when writing audio CDs. I have an ASUS p3v133 MB (via 133 chipset). I think there is a conflict there. Anyone have any ideas?

What version of Windows are you running? I know that I had to buy the upgrade to Adaptec's Easy CD Creator and CD Writer software for my HP 9100i CD Writer to work under W2K. Maybe you need to upgrade your version of the Adaptec software. Also, I also know that I had to set my IDE controller to use DMA mode or my writer just wouldn't burn CDs properly. Thanks for the reply. I'll check the DMA setting. That could be it. I have already updgraded all adaptec and Hp software(including firmware). Thanks again

I have a hp cd writer 9100 i too and have lost my install disk. I have tried to install using the Windows 98 drivers but it keeps locking up my system when I go to use it. Also my dvd drive has started locking up when I go to use it now and when I called the tech support to ask about it they said that more than likely it has something to do with the cdr. I would appreciate all the help you can afford me.

Yes my friend. You have found your answer... You need to download the latest VIA4in1 Driver. you can get it from www.cnet.com. (http://www.cnet.com.)
Then you will have to go into your system cmos and select your new HP CDRW. from here you will select PIO4 Mode2 or whatever looks similiar to this.
After booting back into windows you will need to go into your device manager and select your HP CDRW and click properties. Make sure DMA is checked.
This will keep your computer from freezing up when copying audio files.
Another useful thing you can do is to go to the HP website and download the updated drivers. I have an HP9350i and had to go through this same process after i installed it.

It wouldn't hurt any to upgrade to EasyCD Creator 5 either. I've been running around upgrading and getting rid of all the patches I've been installing to get v.4 to work most of the time. So far v.5 has fixed every problem any of my customers have been working around.

So far, I've been using v4 that came with my HP 9100i CD Writer (now upgraded to v4.03a). Where's the cheapest place to buy the v5.0 upgrade? More fundamentally, is there even an upgrade price or am I forced to buy a new version? Yeah, get what price you can--there is no upgrade rebate that I can find...but for the problems it resolved.....

I'm running a 9110i on an Asus CUV4x, which is similar to the P3V133 only uses the VIA 694 chipset instead of the 693. I was having problems running my drive with any version of the VIA drivers older then 4.25. The new 4.29 which were just finalized, along with anything between there and 4.25 work great. Make sure the VIA IDE driver is installed properly and has DMA enabled for the drive. This drive should run at UDMA mode 2 (ATA33). Good luck!
