Bios sees cd rom on boot up. however cd rom drive not available after allowing win 98 start boot disk to run. "E" (cd-rom) does not work. attempting to install windows. Moved cd-rom from secondary slave to master, still no good. Attemted to change boot seq to boot from CD-Rom still no good. Any other suggestions? Machine had a hard drive replaced however this is the same cd that was working in the machine previous. 56X cd, Machine 300 amd. Is the problem the drivers that the win start up disk is loading? HElp Help!

Well, if the win98 boot disc detects the cdrom, and the BIOS does also, it sounds like the drive is at fault,

possibly dirty lense, faulty motor, check your connections and make sure the drive is jumpered correctly (ie master / slave) hope this helps..

I've seen plenty do this throughout installation and the problem is usually related to motherboard drivers that need to be installed. If 98 is up and running get on the internet and download the appropriate drivers for your board. If not, get 'em on floppy, zip disk or anything else you have that is not CD. Load 'em up and check it out.
