Ati Expert 2000? Those cards get so bloody hot you wouldn't believe it, you may need more cooling. Also the usual stuff, make sure power management is shut off, Antivirus disabled, anything uneccessary in the systray, update drives, patches for chipset, blah blah blah. But I have a frined who has the Expert 128 32 card K6-II 500 and dvd player and it did the same, till we added more cooling. go figure...

Thanks NeuromarIV
I think the cooling is my best bet. I have done everything you said all ready. Will try a fan card or pop the cover.
Thanks 42Cra****

Just to be certian - pop the case cover off and use a BOX fan to pull the heat OUT - pushing air in will also push whatever else you have in the air (dirt, dust, humidity, etc) that should lower the heat in your computer to almost nothing (70-80 deg.) See if that solves your problem.

The AMD K6'2s are a good chip putting this kind of load on it your asking for trouble (upgrade to K7) more fans always helps be sure you have a good power supply or get a full decoder card(hollywoods are very good and take the full load off the CPU very cost effective) ATI always says be sure your CPU can handle the load for the software..

I found my problem was ALI drivers installed latest drivers and also added a fan to cool video card. Whatched full DVD with out a hitch. Gigabyte GA-5ax with ALi chip set. Have really had little trouble till now.AMD 350 K2 128 mg ram.
Thanks again

Greetings.
I recently upgraded my system.
Before I upgraded, my DVD worked fine. (Using PowerDVD 2.55 that came with the hardware.) Since the upgrade, my DVD player will lock my system to the point that the only thing I can do is hit 'reset'.

Old System:
Soyo MB SY-5ema+ v1.1
AMD K6-2 450
1 Maxtor 20GB HD
1 Maxtor 13GB HD
Voodoo5 5500 Video card
Aureal Vortex SQ2500 Sound card
Creative Modem Blaster modem
Microsoft HomeClick Network card
128 MB PC133 Ram

New System:
ASUS A-7PRO MB
AMD 800MhZ chip
1 Maxtor 20GB HD
1 Maxtor 13GB HD
Voodoo5 5500 Video card
Creative Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer 5.1 Sound card
Creative Modem Blaster modem
Microsoft HomeClick Network card
128 MB PC133 Ram

Win98 on both

I was wondering if there was a compatibility problem somewhere?
Thanks for your help.
