I have a Rimax 8/4/32 IDE on mye computer.
Lately I've noticed that the drive uses the same time as a 2x-drive would!

When I start i.e. Easy cd-creator 4 it says "8x 1200kb/s", and "8-9 minutes left", only that 1 second is 3-4 seconds.. :/
I've tried other burning progs, but the same result appears there.

Can the installation of Direct CD 5 have caused the problem?
But I can't rememeber if I got the problem after/before the installation..

I tried asking in an other forum, and there we got to the conclusion that I should try to update the firmware of the drive.
But then the problem is I can't find my firmware ANYWHERE.
I don't even know what model this is, because in "device manager" it just says "IDE-CD R/RW 8x/4x/32".

I would be very thankful if someone could help.
I think of format c: as the last solution..

My specs; Duron 700, 256MB RAM, Abit KT7 (non-raid), IBM 45GB, Win2000 Pro. with SP1 and Via 4-in-1 4.29 drivers installed.

You haven't said anything about what media you are using. Adaptec among others drop the speed to accomodate the media as necessary.

As to which cdrw you have, there must be a label on that sucher somewhere! http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm24.gif

Never ever say out loud or even think to yourself near a computer "I'll just do this quickly...."

Hi,
I've tried many cdr media's, but it won't burn any higher than 2x on any of them.

There probably is a label on the drive (physically), but since all the guys on last forum came to the conclusion that the drive were identical to a Philips, I didnt think that thay would help.
