I have tried uninstalling it then re-installing it. It still does not show up. This all started when I installed Adptec Direct CD 3.01 nad easy cd creator 4.02. I uninstalled them and now neither of my drives show up, the cdrw or cd-rom. Any help is appreciated.

There is an update for directcd for windows 2000 that fixes a problem during shutdown. I noticed the problem right after I installed and rebooted and no cdrom drives. I downloaded the update and installed it rebooted and the drives came back. They are aware of the problem. I figure it has something to do with win2k not being able to properly shutdown.

These are not the newest versions of EZCD. Try downloading the updates from Roxio (http://www.roxio.com/en/support/winupdates.html). Also this ASPI (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?filekey=aspi32.exe) update might help as well.

Can't uninstall Adaptec Easy CD 4 / DirectCD 3.01 - preventing hibernation
By: Tim Gabriel
I cannot claim responsibility for this excellent piece of information and
it works and I have now reinstalled the Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 and
Direct CD with their three upgrades taken off their web site and they work
fine causing no problems elsewhere.
Adaptec know what the Hibernate problem is with the 4.02 update and it
is a file called "cdralw2k.sys". When 4.02 is installed it adds filters to the
registry so that this file is used instead of "cdrom. sys" .When the
Adaptec software is uninstalled the registry is not reverted to use
"cdrom. sys" and hence the Hibernate problem continues.
You have to edit the registry to stop the Adaptec driver after uninstall.
The critical keys that the software leaves behind after being uninstalled
are in:
HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFCl-087002BEl0318}
In this section you will find two keys called "UpperFilters" &
"LowerFilters" and you will need to delete both of these keys and reboot
to restore win2K to the default CD driver. You should also search for other
keys containing "cdralw2k" and "cdr4 2K" and delete these then delete
these two files AFTER the reboot. Note you-cannot delete the references
to these in "ENUM" as they are generated from the class driver, but they
will not be there after the reboot.
Thanks all for your help. All of my stuff does show up now.
