Just do what I do: Try and sell them something :D

"Entschuldigung, Ich spreche keine English" also works pretty well, though I live in fear of a telemarketer who speaks German

Another good one is "Like, whoa, sorry man, I don't know who's house this is." Said that once or twice in full seriousness.

I love messing with telemarketers.
Keep repeating "what?, What?"

Let them give their whole pitch, tell them I'm going to get my credit card and hang up.

Give the phone to one of my kids.

Rant.

well guys dont flame me but i use to be a telemarketer and i know what the associates go through.

yes i know it sucks to have people annoy you and try to sell you crap.

but im sure if there where other jobs these people can take they would, i use to work for sears home central i would sell warranties for people that pruchased crap from sears. before then i worked for wards and wards was going to fire me so i had to quit i wasnt having any luck finding a job. i was starting to **** bricks, then there was this big sign that said they need people i was desprate so i applied and got the job. boy did i hate it. i hated calling people's houses and selling them crap alot of times people where @ssholes or they would just hang up. what sucks is if they people dont make the quota they automatically get canned. so thats why they keep trying to sell even after you say no.
i only did the telemarketing thing for like a month or two till i found another job. my also quit wards because she was going to get fired too, she worked with me as a telemarketer and after i quit she later on got fired for not meeting her quota.

you can be a telemarketer for years with a company but if you dont make the sales they will fire you on the spot.

so to work in the telemarketor world really sucks. its not a stable job.

to all the people that where rude to me " go to hell"

heheehhehehe

Aardvarcks dam you

To pick on telemarketing companies without guilt, just ask to speak to their supervisors. If they refuse to let you, then you have free rein to do whatever the hell you want, because they are supposed to.

When their supervisor gets on the phone, then you can get seriously nasty.

The poor sods on the phone lines may be innocents forced to do this to support families and the like... their supervisors are a lot more likely to be happy with their jobs, and are the ones forcing the others to do theirs...

I have no sympathies for the poor telemarketers....If everyone just hung up on them they lose their job--BOO HOO...

If everyone just hung up on them the whole industry would eventually go away and they could all find real jobs that didn't require them to intrude on my time and then act offended when I don't want to talk to them. I've been around long enough to have had to change careers several times--life happens, the economy changes, people move on.

I once spent 2.5 hours talking to a telemarketer from Texas. She sounds really cute and I had just split up from my ex. The telemarketer even stayed past her shift to chat with me.

It was really cool.

Normally, I will be nice and say, "I'm just not interested, but thank you". If they continue, I get irate. I figure, everyone is usually kinda rude to them so I give them the benefit of the doubt, but when they take advantage of that, it pisses me off.

Check out Jim Florentine's Terrorizing Telemarketers.

There are a few free clips you can download. Some of them are rather funny. I like "No Time Is a good time", "B****" is pretty funny too.

My wife always tells them that we "aren't home right now". Kind of makes me wonder who they think they're talking to. I get mad at her though, because they just put us on the "call them later" list.

If she'd just hang up, it'd be done with. It even takes less effort than lieing about it. Myself, I'm one that will let them ramble on and on about whatever. I'll even ask them to repeat things if I've missed it while working on my computer. Ha!

Except charities, I get off of the phone right away with them. Somehow, after a while they start making you feel guilty about having a sucessful life...

Hey Clammie! Good point but still, if it didn't get the occasional sucker, they too would go away eventually.....The problem is, there are plenty of fools who buy from telemarketers and spammers thus they just keep on searching out more fools....

Sorry, Clam, I can't agree with that. That's the career path they choose, no one twists their arm to be a telemarketer.

If I were a hitman & I killed a bunch of people under contract for the mob, would I be held any less accountable for their deaths than the mob bosses would?

I ALWAYS ask them to remove my name from their list, and they are legally requred to do that.

But for more fun, you can listen to a few calls from here: http://chris.com/telemarketing/

He has done some... Uhhh... Interesting stuff on the phone with them...

I like it when people call trying to get me to switch my home long distance.

I work for a large phone company, and I get 2.5 cents per minute. All 50 states, 24 hrs a day.

I tell them that, they say ' Have a good day!" and hang up...

Including Voice Mail, Wireless web, Voice Command, and all the cool schtuff that the 3G network will give me!!

All I need is for my wife to start working for Comcast, then we'll get cable TV and Internet for free, too!

I think I just fell victim to the worst type of telemarketer, Junk Email!

It had popups, that not only crashed my system (and took some serious work to working corretly), but it also disabled Outlook (yes, I had to re-install it!).
