OK. Here's how this works. Post a sample of a screenshot from an application and the others try to guess what application it is from. Whoever knows it gets to post another screen shot.

I'll start with an easy one.

1) mIRC
2) something in MS Works, probably Spreadsheet
3) something in MS works...database?
4) no idea
5) no idea

Glenn
December 30th, 2001, 05:03 PM
Everyone is right. #1 is indeed mIRC.

Clues about the others:

As I said, if you get 2 you've been around the block. This means that there are two very common applications on this list. mIRC was one of them.

There is only one Microsoft product on this list. It is (or should I say was?) a very common one, in fact.

As currently surmised, #5 is indeed a CD-writing product.

All, but two are file utilities.

Two of them are commonly downloaded shareware products. These are also the two "challenge" questions, so don't feel too bad if you don't get these. :)

I uploaded new screen shots for #4 and #5 revealing the entire toolbars. The rest of the applications but #1 have all of their toolbars in the screen shots.

I've said enough for clues and will reveal all
if these clues don't help. Happy hunting and good luck. :)

Correct. Actually it's the one out of Windows ME, but still...good job. :)

Note, you can find WINFILE.EXE and PROGMAN.EXE there in your Windows directory.

Switch out your shell from EXPLORER.EXE to PROGMAN.EXE and you essentially have the Win 3.1 desktop. :)

2 down, three to go. :)

Answers for Round 1:

1) mIRC
2) Diskdata (it's a freeware app I got off of a magazine disk which will graph the space taken up by different files/directories on a drive).
3) The old 3.11 look-alike File Manager out of Windows ME.
4) Advanced Disk Catalog (it's a shareware app which catalogs files/directories on different disks that you feed it. You can then do searches off of it, or make full lists of files.)
5) Prassi PrimoCD Plus (it's a generic cd-writer app).

Thanks for playing...and Round #2 coming soon... :)
