Honestly, I can say that I use on a daily basis (I am the Mac tech for the local college) and the pc stomps the crap outta the mac in terms of being easy to use/upgrade Outcoded July 13th, 2002, 05:53 AM This post was written on a Mac, I'm getting paid 39 hours a week, supervisors wage, to sit on my arse at home. 'nuff said :D The Rifleman July 13th, 2002, 06:51 AM I've got one, its one of the newer ones. The lady who "gave" it to me said she paid like $3000 for it. I gave her $150 trade in on a new system, I tried telling her I didn't want it, but she was going to give it to me, and I'd have felt really bad considering it was only 5 months old. I have never checked to see what it is or plugged it in to see if it works. Her complaint was learning how to do stuff on it. My complaint is it's an Apple. EvilCabbage July 13th, 2002, 08:25 AM Stupid, stupid advertising campaign. Yeah, switch my @ss. NooNoo July 13th, 2002, 08:31 AM I think that the article was written for those people who need to target advertising... I think they are saying that if you have a mac user, s/he is more likely to click the x10 popup... or am I being too cynical? Garak July 13th, 2002, 08:55 AM I've used both PC's and MAc's and i always get the same results on the PC in design packages so i got rid of the mac, My p4 does everything i want it too except wash my dishes and make cofee!! geeksRus July 13th, 2002, 11:40 AM ok...so Macs aren't evil...just overpriced and underpowered. design and print shops love them for, well...printing and design, seemingly oblivious to the fact you can do the same thing on a reasonably quick (there's an oxymoron) eMachine (well, for the few weeks the power supply holds out). just how much does Jobs think that cute Apple logo is worth anyway? in my area it is an hour drive to even buy one. no one around here works on them so service is another matter. why go out of your way when there is a PC shop on almost every block of Anytown, USA? Most of the affluent people in the world are too busy making or counting money to have time to learn how to use the powerful and complex instrument known as the PC. Same goes for the most (not all) of the highly educated (Master's degree or higher). They are too busy learning to have time to enjoy the wonders of the Windows operating system. Most of the web developers I know have or use a Mac for web dev on a regular basis. I was shocked a while back to find out that Rush Limbaugh (who ardently defends M$ on his daily radio show) is an avid Mac user and have even written some web pages on his Mac. OH - and I do own a Mac (PowerPC 75). Right now it is in the perfect place in my apt...on the floor in the closet. Another thing, mac has a great educational and developer plan. I got a educational discount which knocked off $300 from the sale price, I then got a developers discount of $200. So mY MAc was very ceap. I also upgraded the hard drive and memory in. 30 gb and 512mb pc100 Oh and there underpowered?? Well kinda my 400 mhz powerbook g4 would spank my tbird 1.2ghz system. Hardware on a mac mean nothing. Mac optimizes there software to run fast ont here ahrdware, thats why they havnt came out with 1.6 mhz 1.9 ghz etc... they really dont need it. Macs systems dont even need fans in it. Another thing I give mac credit for is there OS. Very nice clean and simple, but the most, powerful. Mac os X is the most powerful OS right now that I see. Its A unix OS with the mac gui. How nice is that, a unix freaks dream. You can get there dual 1 ghz machine for $4000 yes thats alot but it sure scared amd and intel. Since that dual 1ghz system can apnk the 2.2 ghz system dont get me wrong, I own 15 other pc machines. 1 sparc, and now this mac.
