Ya know, I was thinking. That today's technology is a lot like the wizardry of D&D. Well, take for instance the fact that your nose is always in a book (in my case programming or networking), there is a lot of memorization, books everywhere in your home and/or on your person, the need for exotic and expensive components for your tasks, you don't get out much except if it involves your art, the older you are the more powerful (experienced) you are.
Wizard vs. Programmer:
Wand - Mouse pointer or cursor
Wizard hat - Geek glasses (could you picture either without it?)
Constant rambling about incomprehensible things that most mortals cant understand
Long hours - no social life
Everyone seeking you for knowledge, or to fix a problem
Both keep strange or exotic toys
