truck stereo system help needed

hey all, i am putting a new stereo system in my truck and i need some really small 6x9 speaker boxes to go behind the seat. the truck is a 87 toyota so the boxes have to be really small. anyone know where i can buy a set of mini boxes or point me to a "how to" on how to make boxes. i checked locally, but theres nothing around.

Have you checked out <a href="http://www.crutchfield.com" target="_blank">Crutchfield</a>? They will either have it or (if you call) will be able to point you in the right direction.

And Crutchfield will probably be quite expensive but it may be an only alternative. Have you checked Fleabay? Also, check out any local pawn shops in your area because they are usually overloaded with speakers and boxes.

Will the boxes be visible? Will they contain more than one drive? Does it need to be ported? I'm assuming that 6 x 9 is inches not cms. Many small boxes are made out of high density particle board, then laminiated, Or for a novel approach, try plexiglass (you could put lights in them too ;) ). If you want to firm up the bass use slate (I have slate quarry locally and it would cost aroun $15 to have those sizes cut). If you really want to try something different, some people cast their own boxes out of concrete or composite resin, ie granite resin. For 6 x 9 inches all these are feasible.

For 6 x 9cm it depends on the driver you're putting in the box, it's so teeny you could get away with any material that isn't too flexible and a resin would still work. Though for that size I would make them out of a laminate (did you ever make salad spoons for you parents out of laminated wood? As long as you use an odd number of layers with a minimum of 7 it's strong and rigid. You just glue and clamp it in a vice til it's completely dry building the layers up one by one).

I love messing with speakers. As long as their not too exspensive.

i've tried crutchfield, i didn't see any "mini boxes". neither normal or truck boxes will fit. remember it has to fit behind the seat in a toyota pickup. guess i'll have to try to build my own. anyone have any tips for a novice box builder?

For best sound, build as big as you can... measure twice, cut once.

i know i can use particle board to make the boxes, but what do i seal them with? glue? screws?
and i have heard of people, after the speaker is mounted, filling the box with packing materials or styrofoam. what does that do? sorry for all the questions

I have 2 10" subs in my truck

I would recomend getting a truck box like I did. Very nice. (with a 600 watt amp)

its got a bed like a truck, has the torque like a truck, had to get a truck sub box, if I get it smog It goes under a truck, somtimes a car depends where you go. Im buying a bed cover for it and bed covers are for trucks :)

but it rides like a car :)

The thing about my car/truck is I can call it a car or a truck. Its special.
