I want to setup a small computer as a "stereo." Connect it to a good amp and speakers. Here is where i am having problems. I want to be able to request songs from any computer in the house (if I am in my room I don't want to have to get up to play a song). Also, some of the osngs may not be on that computer. My brother has lots of MP3 on his computer also. I don't think I am explaining myself correctly, but if you understand please help.

Thanks in advance.

check out Winamps (http://www.winamp.com) general (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.jhtml?componentFlag=P&categoryName=General) plugins

for example I found Wildbear WinAmp Client-Server (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/detail.jhtml?componentId=14544&componentFlag=P) but there are others.

oh, yeah: Holy cr@p! Winamps gone ninja!!!

Actually I already bought a Book PC. I know it's slow and crappy, but I only want it for playing MP3. It has 5.1 channel sound so it should sound OK. I will check out some of the links and let you know how it went.

Winamp would be a good choice for that setup (If the system can handle the mp3 decoding)
If you have a network you can share the mp3 directories to pull the tracks.
I like the idea, I was going to do something simular once but my spare crap PC was only a 133 cyrix...didn't work too well, it hung often. :(

You can also buy a packard bell remote and a remote repeater - then control winamp via remote control from any room in the house.
