Ok after seeing all the fighting yet again .. the tech lounge is in trouble .. is this what we want ... people get your head out of your arses ...

like my tye-dye stuff im trying to bring fun and happiness with the help ... im not even closet to the smartest person here .. im like the clown of the board .. i help people some but as many of you know im the guy who does jokes and fun stuff ... trying to make this place a little better

but today after hanging in the chat room and forums .. im disappointed again at things ... scott and the mods (including the chat) do this stuff for free .. dont turn this into a job .. i for one would like people to help me make learning and helping people here fun .. so if someone says wheres the anykey .. we can all laugh even the one who asked .. learning and helping should be fun for ALL ...

ive gotten mad in the past and i cooled off .. we all need to we all need to stop fighting and start showing what this place is scott spoke and many didnt listen .. although alot did .. some didnt .. you dont need to be here then if you dont listen .. cause like us all when we listen.. We learn !!!

i maybe the highest posted person for doing the least tech help .. but im learning and trying and i have a name for myself around here .. my jokes .. and i use them for making it better .. as i have done with tye dyes to the dummie things to many others .. WINDRIVERS is a TEAM .. if you dont want to be apart of it then LEAVE!

NOW BACK TO WORK!

I don't want to sound like I am kissing arse, but...... this should be a place to blow off a little fustration, get some help when we are stuck with a problem. I like a good moral or political debate, especially when you can walk away from the table and go have a beer.

Ok, i know i should probably be emailing the mods, or whoever else about this, but i'd like to get your oppinions on it too.

In light of all the recent arguements in the forums, i was thinking maybe there should be an extra forum for debates. What do all of you think about it?

Matt_29
April 24th, 2001, 12:42 PM
we have enuff forums .. and that would be fighting and name calling ground if we had one like that .... ohh i can imagine how bad it would be ... it would take 20 mods alone in just that one .. and it would drag to other forums..

I don't think we need another form, I think we just need to learn how to A)not get personal and B)call it quits and go get a beer!

Okay, okay I just want beer.

I agree, I will be the first to admit that %99 of my post are not serious. I try to help when I can although most of the time someone else post the solution first. I come in the forums to vent and let of steam too. Sometimes the subject do get a little out of hand and what is meant to be a joke turns tastless and what was meant to be an opionion turns into a war. We are all tech's we should all stand togeather. We have been given a gift by Scott and we should not abuse it. Sometimes the forums are a little like pandor's box but the Mods do have the right to shut that box any time they feel it necesary. I regard most of you as friends and will always treat you the same way that I have been treated. I guess what I am saying it doesn't matter if I can curse or talk about sex, all that matters is that I get to spend time with some off the finest techs in the world

Quick everyone Group hug.

ahhh jvaguy have you forgotten me so quickly?

I'm kinda in the same boat as you man I don't have alot of tech experience racked up in my brain but I know how to make people feel a little better and I try to lift the tension here from time to time with some good jokes.

I've been gone for a few days and I do not like what I came back to...

I enjoy this site and I've made many friendships here ... I'm not about to throw it away because of a few rule changes.

I'm here for the long haul , or at least as long as Scott is around :)

What about the Spiffer? The Spiffer is good for a laugh or two. Have we so quickly forgotten the picture of the guy blowing chunks? Let's try for a little nice humor... :D

JvaGuy and Kyr0n, have you ever been to the ArsTechnica forums? The Soapbox there is one HUGE mass of flames and vitriol ... I don't envy anyone who has to moderate that ! Even their tech forums can be brutal for the thin-skinned among us. I lurk there sometimes, but don't bother posting. I'd hate to see a good-natured place like Windrivers go down (meant literally) that road.

Jvaguy, I couldn't agree more. Humour helps and PC humour (as opposed to pc Humour) don't work. So we either develop a slightly thicker skin, or in some cases, a complete sense of humour!

I don't like flaming, or personal comments, but if someone is up for digging a hole for themselves, I like to help out by handing them a shovel.

It used to be called mischief, and people used to be able to laugh at it and at themselves.

Lets just assume from now on that the other guy is just having a bit of fun!

The sad thing i know a decent amount about computers ... how ever like you i always get there and its already answered .. with 10 points of view for that matter ... thats when i came to realize i could be the "human resources" person here and try to keep it fun .. and throw in help when possible .. so call me the human resources jokester!!!

I agree with the fact that the forum needs to cool down a bit. I first came here looking for help and found it. Then I decided that I could learn a lot more just by reading posts and answers. I will help anybody I can but sombody usally beats me to it as well. When I found the Tech Lounge it seemed like agreat place to get to "meet" other techs and have some fun. I don't want to lose that. I know I'm new but lets just drop the BS, start over and keep the Tech Lounge going before its gone. If you abuse it, you'll lose it.

It works the same way any Microsoft Service and license aggrement works. You get the product now and worry about the results later.

I visited other forums before settling solely on this one.....and let me tell you, there is NOT NEAR the flaming, BS posts, etc. here as some of the others!!!

That's why I came here, and that's how we need to keep it, and if we have too lose a few "problem" members along the way, SO BE IT!!!......there is a few casualties in almost every war!!!

To each and every one of you...thanks for caring enough to be here. And, for trying to be the peacemakers...."Blessed are the peacemakers...." There is no need to ban or isolate to a new forum the political, news issue discussions. All we need to do is keep or points from being personal and dogmatic. Even if you post something I disagree with, I can still learn something about myself and the rest of the world by suspending judgement and trying to understand the basis of your ideas. It is a fragile ego that feels the need to defend its opinion. When I informed my wife that I couldn't live the life we had anymore she was furious and called me everything in the book (and some that weren't). I just looked her in the eye each time and said, "you're absolutely right but that is who I am and I'll live with it." I haven't yelled at anyone for over ten years now and for the first time in my life (2F-hex) I truly like myself. Only because I finally learned to stop being so damned defensive all the time (most insults and personal attacks are really thinly veiled defenses). O.K. I'll get off the soap box again (for a couple minutes anyway). And to all of you who are still steaming over one slight or another--take a chill pill. Life is much too short to waste another minute on anger. :)

I spend 99% of my time in the Tech Lounge and love every minute of it. It's a release, simple as that. I don't need to do a job that is already stressful enough and then get flamed by some a$$hole in a forum. That's what makes the Tech Lounge unique. You guys have a wonderful sense of humour, and as I have found, offer good advice and empathy when required. When it comes down to it we all come from similar backgrounds - although we are scattered around the globe - so are sympathetic to each others needs. We can offer good advice socially and emotionally, and I for one, am very grateful to you all for that.

with the situation i'm in i spend about 95%of the day either hanging out in the chatroom or cruising the forums and i've noticed everyone is getting a little thin skinned or thick headed one or the other and i'm the same way myself mabe it has something to do with the fact we're all anxious for summer to finaly get here or in my case last week new meds were having a bad reaction and i'm tired of sitting on my hind end all day either way it goes i think alot of us need to get rip roaring drunk and start anew
