Creative Infra 52X and Aopen KA73 Pro woes

Hi all,

Got this weird fault where if DMA is enabled on the CD-ROM, it'll lock up the PC while doing heavy accessing (e.g installing).

I am running Via 4in1 4.21 final and have tested with several others.

I think the problem could be that the Aopen AK73 Pro has ATA100/66 Primary and Secondary IDE's and the data is moving to fast but I'm losing too much performance (and autoplay) to have DMA disabled.

Any ideas?

It's a well known issue with Creative 52x drive.

it doesn't work in DMA mode.. (do a search and see for yourself..)

stick to PIO mode or dump tis drive and get a Toshiba or Plextor.

Wonder how much actual speed I'm losing without DMA?

DMA usually doesn't improve Speed in CD-ROMs.. (unless you have a slow CPU).

it just lowers CPU usage.. ( A lot !!)
