CRC failure after zipped files burning

Hi,
I've win98se, hp 9510i cd-writer nero5 software and one big problem: after i'm burning CD-R i have couple of corrupted files, especially zipped files and it's very annoyng.
can someone tell me what is CRC problem and why does it happen?

CRC stands for Cyclic redundancy check, basically means that the program goes back to check itself to make sure that the file it just created isn't corrupted or something. So for some reason, files that yer burning are getting corrupted by something. Unfortunately, this could be a million things. Try uninstalling and reinstalling yer burning software. Next, try different media - it's possible yer cd-rw doesn't like the blank cds yer using. Also make sure that you have the latest bus master drivers for you motherboard.

i'm still getting CRC failure messages although i've done the reinstall and the media changing

CRC checks are usually the sign of incompatible media. If it is only one one CD, the Table of Contents on the CD has become corrupt and there is probably no way to repair that disk.

some compressing utility don`tcarry too well while transfering or burning that is why most peoples on thew warez scene use winrar to do the job,that is the one i use and don`t have any problems with it,good luck,clauded

while burning, what stuff are you doing? it maybe if you're running other apps the burner may be running short of stuff in the buffer, hence corruption.

try just burning, and see what happens! ;)

Well I know it's not a full time resolution but if you need to transport things quickly, is it completely necessary to be zipped up? By the way Winace works really well and is easy to use.

I've found that my HP9100i burner won't work worth squat if I leave the CD-ROM controller settings in Device Manager to PIO mode. I had to switch to DMA mode for the errors to go away... :cool:

my cd-r manufactorer has said that i've to turn the DMA option for the cd-r.
can someone tell me what does this option mean?

DMA is a setting for hard drives. it allows a bit faster data trandfer on some controllers. also, you could be gettin CRC errors if the zipfile is tryin to expand on hte CD.

This sounds stupid, I've caught myself doing it.

Make sure you're not trying to extract to the CDROM drive. :D

When your opening your zip files on your CD...

Make sure when you try and extract the zip files you're not extracting to the CD.

Close applications before you burn not while you are burning. I'm the paranoid type so I try to let things be when it's burning. Check your achiver program. Check the zip files that you make. You might consider switching to WinRar.
