Since I upgraded from Win2k Pro, to XP Pro my ATI TV Wonder isn't working properly..
The video looks like it's scrambled like the an incompatable video driver..
It worked just fine with Win2k with the lastest drivers, and according to ATI, I still have the latest drivers..I checked their site and Do have the latest drivers...
I even went to the next level and wiped my hard drive...and worked from scratch, and I got the same crap..I get sound, but the video is bad.
It's the same feed that goes into my Regular TV so I know it's not the feed..
So can anyone enlighten me to what my problem is?
Or can direct me to a updated driver, although ATI's site says that the same driver for Win2k works with XP..
Edit: Maybe I'll have to wait for ATI to make new drivers...
Any help would be appreciated..

Understood. I presume you tried with the MMC7.0 first and then downloaded MMC7.1 later?

I first I tried the Drivers that came on the CD..
The drivers on the CD wouldn't even install.Then I bypassed MMC 7.0 because I tried it once and it crashed very inconsistantly..With Win2k Pro
MMC 7.1 was the first driver that actually worked, not only was it stable, "it runs now, but the video is scrambled", but it was stable and never crashed on me..not even once..
I figured it would work well with XP, but I think it's just a driver issue though...
XP kept bitching at me because it wasn't a MS certified driver...

did you happen to change out the vid card?? What kind of vid. card are you using...is it an Nvidia chipset? Also what drivers is the video card running??
I have a vid card with Nvidia chipset, and I had to go back like 5 driver sets just to get my ATI TV Wonder to work....

I noticed something funny while playing around with my TV Wonder..
While accidently clicking on the Quick launch Icon...All of a sudden *BOOM it worked!!
Video was perfect!!
But to double check I exited the program MMC 7.1
and I clicked on it again, and back to the blury screen..
After just clicking on the icon and getting the same crappy results it came back and it was fine again..But just to make sure it wasn't a fluke I closed it and brought it back up and it was blury again..
It seems to work every 5-7 times after opening and closing the program, and another thing my Alaris Webcam light seems to go on for a sec..
Thinking to myself maybe it was a driver conflict, first I just unpluged the camera, and I just got the same thing....So I uninstalled the drivers and still same thing all blurry..
My webcam doesn't work either..
I doubt anyone is going to make any new drivers for either my ATI or my Webcam when they can make new hardware with an M$ sign of approval. They stand to make more money that way.
And we get screwed!

BTW,.. did you run a XP compatibility check before upgrading? That might tell ya whether or not your card is compatible with XP. Have you tried a different video card in your system to just so you know for sure to start troubleshooting with the video card? Also,... just a thought, but could you possibly have a bad or loose video cable causing the blurriness? Probably not, but it sounds like the problem is intermittent, so I'm just trying to cover all bases. Anyway, this post is probably not much help, but the if the MS compatibility check says it works, then it most certainly should.

Yeah I ran a compatibility check...
I also reseated all my cards, installed the Video Drivers I used for Win2k Pro..
Although XP bitched at me for not having it Digtally Signed, but I got the same results..
I popped in my backup harddrive and with my old OS installed Win2k Pro, and it worked fine even with the drivers that WinXP I installed at Windows Update...
Edit: I also used my new ATI RadeonVE, it's a brandnew card and it gave me the same issues, infact XP gave me that, "Warning that driver is incompatable with out software crap". Still nothing.
I even have a duplicate machine running Win2k, and it still ran ok...After running a battery of tests...it seems that Microsoft is just not allowing drivers that would usually work on the basis that they are not certified by Microsoft.
In which I believe the corporation would have to pay a "Royalty fee" to have their hardware and drivers tested, and then pay another fee to have the Digital Signature....
I would pop the card into my Linux box, but ATI doesn't make drivers for it...At least not yet..

Well, when I first installed XP on my machine, I was having issues with my SB Live! card. The drivers weren't available yet, so the almighty Cobra gave me some drivers for it that he had. So I went to install the drivers he gave me, and I got the uncertified error message you're talking about. So again, I consulted the almighty Cobra. I can't remember his exact words,.. but it was something like this:
Me: "It has an error message. Should I install it anyway?"
Cobra: "How should I know, I just keep clicking next until it's finished. I never let stuff like that stop me."
So I'm not sure if you continued on anyway, but if not, it's definately worth a try. It might just work despite the error message.

What version SBLive? I own the Soundblaster live 5.1 XGamer and I had some issues, but when I went to Windows Update they had certified drivers..and it worked anyhow, but somehow I was missing dsound.dll, I had to use a driver *Cringe* out of Win2k Pro and wham! it worked..
I got sound, and no conflicts..
I later got the offical driver from a buddy with XP...Somehow that driver wasn't installed when I upgraded...then later wiped my drive and started from scratch..
All in all I think I might have to by new hardware in reguards to my older "legacy cards"
Why make new drivers when you can make more money like Symantic's Norton Utilities, who now uses Windows APIs to defrag in speed disk..
If ya can't beat MS sleep with them...
Edit: I never let those stupid MS Compatablity, not digitally signed errors stop me..

Heh heh,.. no doubt about it. I sold my soul a long time ago to MS. :D
I have a SB Live! Value card. I bought XP Home Ed. the first day it came out, and it took CL about 2-3 weeks after that date before they released official XP compatible drivers for it.

What you need to do is change the color depth on the desktop as the TV is running. This will straighten out the video.
Of course...you have to do it EVERY TIME. But it's an offical ATI work around. I have to do it for my new TV Wonder VE. However....to get around it all together...I do my TV stuff in Win2k. ;)

I've seen that and done that work around..
what I use my TV Wonder for is taking Video Tape to my Harddrive...
NO workaround there...

well, i dont know about you, but i have a TV wonder in windows xp, no issues at all, i jsut used the newest drivers offa their site. The reson for this might be the fact that i have a radeon 7500. i know the card works in winxp, its jsut a matter of getting it correctly installed

I am beginning to think this is more of an ATI issue than WinXP...
If I had an ATI Video card I wouldn't have this problem

Yeah, it's definitely an ATI issue. As long as you're using an ATI video card you're OK, but if you're using a third party card (most notably nVidia) you stand a very good chance of seeing this problem. Of course if you contact ATI they'll blame it on your video card driver even though the most recent driver for the TV-Wonder was released in July 2001 which was four months before XP was even available. Makes perfect sense to me! :rolleyes:
